Short Hills, NJ Dormer Addition & Renovation

The unused but large attic space on this two story home¬†in Short Hills, New Jersey was¬†transformed into two bedrooms and a bathroom. Upon the initial meeting with the client, our architect assessed how the home’s attic could be utilized and made livable. It was decided to add three dormers; one in the front and rear and one on the left side to accommodate a bathroom. M&M Construction Specialist performed the demolition, framing, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and finish work on this space. Materials used include GAF Timberline shingles and Alside Mezzo windows. The homeowner’s old HVAC system was also replaced with a significantly larger unit that could properly heat and cool the additional space. This upgrade also required changes to the home’s electrical service to accommodate the system. A full bathroom with a shower stall, toilet, and sink created. On the main level of the house, a new staircase was installed which required changes to the existing walls and hallway. Drop-beams were installed throughout the attic floor, which required the opening of the ceiling in various locations on the main floor. All of these drop beams were installed, sheetrocked, and painted. Crown molding was installed around the new staircase area to match the existing crown molding on that level. The main level bathroom door was also adjusted and moved approximately two feet to accommodate the new stair area.
