St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Historic Preservation – Church Doors

The circa 1854 church doors at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Spotswood, NJ had been altered many times since their installation. They had become deteriorated and worn over time. M&M Construction Specialist removed the doors and brought them to our workshop to be repaired. A new, custom oak saddle was built to replace the badly deteriorated saddle. All of the hardware was removed, the front of the door stripped down, and wood added to make them even due to alterations made in the past. The front of the doors were then primed and painted with a deep red color from Benjamin Moore’s historic color palette. The back side of the doors retained their original faux paint which was cleaned and matched where it had deteriorated. The original hardware, now clean was reinstalled and the doors were rehung and adjusted for a weatherproof fit.
